This Holy Family was created by the Adianto Ceramics Workshop in Cumbaya, Ecuador. Mary and Joseph wear traditional Ecuadorian clothing .
The pieces are created out of rolled sheets of clay to which such details as clothing, ears, hair, and coats are added. After the clay have semi-dried additional details are carved into the figures. Then the figures are fired in a kiln. Finally the artisans paint the figures.
